Booth climbs to second place in business school publication ranking - Crain's Chicago Business

The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business climbed to the number two top spot in this year’s ranking from a well-known business school publication.

After ranking fourth last year, Booth rose to second place in the 2019-2020 list of best business schools from Poets & Quants, a publication dedicated to covering MBA schools. Booth edged out last year's first place winner University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, which slipped three spots in this year's ranking.

Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business took this year’s top spot. Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management clinched fifth place for the second consecutive year.

The list is a composite of the five most influential business school rankings: U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, Bloomberg Businessweek, The Financial Times and the Economist. Each ranking is separately weighted based on their credibility and to minimize flaws in other publications’ calculations. U.S. News, for example, is weighted 35 percent while the Economist is weighted only 10 percent.

Poets & Quants Editor-in-Chief John Byrne said in a statement that combining the five rankings “doesn't eliminate the flaws in each system, but it does significantly diminish them.”
