U.S. wholesale prices fell last month, dragged down by a steep drop in gas costs, suggesting that inflation will remain tame in the coming months. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has said that recent muted inflation data have helped the Fed to be "patient" when it comes to raising short-term interest rates.
A monthly survey of rural bankers in parts of 10 Plains and Western states suggests banks are growing increasingly concerned about farm loan defaults in 2019. More than 4 of every 10 bankers questioned for the Rural Mainstreet survey for January said they expect farm loan defaults to be the year's biggest challenge.
Sears is confirming reports its chairman and largest shareholder Eddie Lampert's hedge fund has won a bid to buy roughly 400 stores and other assets for $5.2 billion. The move preserves 45,000 jobs and is subject to court approval on Feb. 1.
Minnesota’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate held at 2.8 percent in December, according to data released today by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), marking the fourth straight month with the same unemployment rate. Over the year, Minnesota has added 31,441 jobs for a 1.1 percent increase over last December.
Perdue is recalling more than 68,000 pounds of chicken nuggets because they may be contaminated with wood. The gluten-free Organics Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets were produced on October 25th an were sold at stores nationwide. They have a UPC bar code of 72745-80656 and the establishment number of P-33944 in the US Agriculture Department inspection mark. The USDA says Perdue received three complaints that wood was found in the nuggets.
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring has announced that $52,500 is available to help North Dakota communities and schools plant orchards and gardens in 2019. The original deadline of Jan. 11, 2019 has been extended until Jan. 31, 2019 to increase the pool of applicants. The review process will start after the new deadline. Communities and schools are eligible to apply for grants of $500 to $7,500. The grants are available on a competitive basis.
The Convention & Visitors Bureau has released the 2019 Official Visitor Guide to Greater Grand Forks. Featured on the cover is the record-breaking Metallica concert at the Alerus Center. The format of the guide has been updated to a more sophisticated look, which is consistent with the Simply Grand brand. 45,000 copies of the publication were printed and will be distributed in local hotels and businesses, in Minnesota and North Dakota statewide information/rest area centers, CAA offices in Manitoba, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks Air Force Base and the Grand Forks International Airport.
Netflix is raising its U.S. prices by 13 percent to 18 percent, its biggest increase since the company launched its streaming service 12 years ago. Its most popular plan will see the largest hike, to $13 per month from $11. The extra cash will help to pay for Netflix's huge investment in original shows and films and finance the heavy debt it has assumed to ward off rivals such as Amazon…Disney…and AT&T.
