Caribou Coffee selects new ceo | 2019-01-23 - Food Business News

MINNEAPOLIS — John Butcher has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of Caribou Coffee, a subsidiary of JAB Holding Co. Mr. Butcher has been president of the coffee chain since joining the company in June 2017.

“Since John joined our company, we’ve witnessed an increased focus on Caribou’s people and culture, resulting in quarter-after-quarter performance gains and the highest guest satisfaction ratings we’ve ever seen at Caribou,” said Mike Tattersfield, chairman of Coffee & Bagel Brands for JAB Holding.

Before coming to Caribou, Mr. Butcher spent 20 years at Target Corp. in a variety of merchandising and marketing leadership roles, most recently as senior vice-president of merchandising for Target’s beauty and DermStore businesses. During his time with the company, he also was senior vice-president for category roles and senior vice-president of merchandising at Target Canada Co.

“I am humbled and honored to lead such an iconic Midwestern brand,” Mr. Butcher said. “Every day at Caribou we have the opportunity to help people start their morning with an amazing, locally roasted cup of coffee and a great interaction. It’s a moment that can make a person’s day, and I think that’s truly rewarding.”

Mr. Butcher succeeds Sarah Spiegel, who had been c.e.o. of Caribou Coffee and Einstein Bros. Bagels since 2017. Ms. Spiegel left the company last fall for personal reasons, the company said.

Founded in 1992, Caribou Coffee operates more than 300 company-owned locations nationwide. The company serves 100% Rainforest Alliance Certified coffees and espresso in its restaurants and also offers its products at retail.
