Rochester Business Hall of Fame inductees include radio pioneer optics darlings

The Rochester Business Hall of Fame celebrated its induction of five local business heavyweights this week, including a sweetener manufacturer and the leaders of an breakout optics company.

The Hall of Fame is a partnership between the Rochester Business Journal, the Rochester Museum and Science Center and Junior Achievement of Central Upstate New York Inc. and honors individuals who have made an impact on the region as innovative business leaders.  

Here are 2018’s inductees, based on a special report from the Rochester Business Journal:

  • James Gould, founder and CEO of Alesco Advisors LLC, a Pittsford investment firm that Gould started in 2000 and steered through tough economic times.
  • Andrew Langston, founder of local radio station WDKX-FM (103.9), the first black-owned radio station in New York, which started broadcasting in 1974.
  • Carlton Myers, president and CEO of Sweeteners Plus Inc., a sweetener manufacturer based in Livingston County that champions sustainability.
  • Michael Mandina and Richard Plympton, president and CEO (respectively) of Optimax Systems Inc., a Wayne County-based optics components manufacturer that has exploded with the optics and technology boom in the area.

Past inductees include Larry and Jane Glazer, Robert Wegman and Lauren Dixon.
