Shoppers support small Business Saturday

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) Thanksgiving Thursday, Black Friday and now Small Business Saturday.

People from all over the state came out to Church Street Saturday to shop small and support local businesses. Although deals didn't match those of bigger department stores, many local shops have sales lasting throughout the weekend. According to a national survey, 2016 marked the biggest turn-out in the shopping holiday's history, with 112 million consumers shopping and dining across the country. Businesses and buyers told us why they enjoy participating in the event.

"Every dollar that you're spending always comes right back to you, in a sense of helps provide an environment like Church Street so you can come down and shop," said Kiss the Cook manager Sherwin Westover.

"I'm here supporting the local businesses because they give us a diversity of products that you can't find in department stores and I just like supporting the local economy," said Tanna Kelton of Charlotte.

According to a national survey, an estimated $15.4 billion was spent in the U.S at retailers and restaurants on small business Saturday in 2016.
