Battle of the Businesses announces winners

In order to attract more volunteers to the Nebraska State Fair, the “Battle of the Businesses: Nebraska State Fair Volunteer Challenge” was created. This challenge was created for businesses and organizations to get involved with the community’s largest event.

Three entities were awarded based on their company sizes. The winner for the small businesses was Wells Fargo. Five Points Bank was awarded at the mid-size level and Principal was awarded at the large business level. They each received a traveling trophy and a cookie for their involvement.

Eight organizations participated in the challenge this year, providing the fair with more than 75 volunteers, many of them returning volunteers. Other businesses and organizations that participated in the challenge were Cabela’s Call Center, Mosaic of Grand Island, Global Industries - MFS/York/Stormor, Chief Industries and Trinity United Methodist Church.

The winners were chosen based on their number of volunteers, the amount of hours of volunteering, the time of the volunteering and the businesses’ overall number of employees.

The traveling trophies will be returned at the beginning of the 2018 Nebraska State Fair and will be awarded again to the top organizations after the fair.
