Newsmakers: Palm Beach County business nonprofits hires promotions

ACCOUNTING

Caler, Donten, Levine, Cohen, Porter & Veil has issued six promotion. Maggie Xie has been named family office services manager. Matthew Oliver, Lory Richardson and Vicki Rizzuto have been named tax supervisors. Gary Mann has been named audit advanaced staff accountant. Stacey Horowitz has been named advanced tax staff accountant.

ARCHITECTURE

MHK Architecture has hired Caroline Koons Forrest as director of its Palm Beach office. Prior to joining the firm, Forrest worked for 10 years as a senior project manager for MP Design and Architecture, and was project manager for STH Architectural Group in West Palm Beach. She is a trustee at the Palm Beach Day Academy and is on the board of directors for Sunfest. Forrest was previously a board member for the City of West Palm Beach planning and zoning board, as well as the city’s historic preservation board. She received her undergraduate degree from the Art Institute of Chicago, and her Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture from the Pratt Institute.

BANKING

First Bank of the Palm Beaches has appointed Darell Bowen to its board of directors. Bowen is the principal owner/broker of Bowen Realty with five offices located throughout Palm Beach County and a sixth office in Port St. Lucie. A Florida resident and business owner for more than 30 years, Bowen is active in a variety of civic and charitable organizations. His past and present community involvement includes serving as mayor of Wellington from 2008 to 2012, officer and director of the Boys & Girls Club of Wellington, director and past president of Wellington Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), member of the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches, past president and member of the board of directors of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, member of the Palms West Chamber of Commerce, member of the board of directors of the Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park and a director of the South Florida Fair. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

EDUCATION

Palm Beach Atlantic University has promoted two in the residence life department. Kara Wenger has been named director of residence life. She will oversee the office, as well as student accountability. She joined PBA in 2012, serving as the resident director for Johnson and Weyenberg Halls. In 2013, she began teaching as an instructor for the First Year Experience class. Wenger was named assistant director for Residence Life in 2016. Prior to arriving at Palm Beach Atlantic, Wenger worked at Southeast, Inc. as a licensed therapist for children, adolescents and adults in a partial hospitalization program. She also worked as the director of adult discipleship and small groups at East Richland Evangelical Friends Church for five years. Wenger earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in educational ministry from Malone University and her Master of Arts degree in clinical counseling from Ashland Theological Seminary. She is an active member of Christ Fellowship in Palm Beach Gardens.

Natalie Johnson has been named assistant director of residence life. She will oversee the residential housing process while maintaining her responsibilities as a resident director. Johnson joined Palm Beach Atlantic University in 2013 as the resident director for South Campus and has spent the past four years serving the upperclassmen residential students of Flagler Towers, Lakeview Apartments and Mango Promenade Apartments. Prior to arriving at PBA, Johnson worked at Friends of the Family, a community mental health center in Los Angeles, California, counseling individuals, couples and families. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Master of Arts in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University.

HEALTH

Good Samaritan Medical Center has hired Heather Schneider as its chief financial officer. She will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the hospital. Prior to Good Samaritan, Schneider served in the same position at Florida Medical Center, a campus of North Shore in Broward County. She also worked as the CFO at The Hospitals of Providence East Campus in El Paso, Texas. Schneider received her Associates Degree from Florida State University in accounting and her Bachelor of Science in business at Florida Institute of Technology. Schneider completed her Master’s in Business at Nova Southeastern University, she also received her Doctorate in business health services from Nova Southeastern University.

West Boca Medical Center has appointed Leisha Peters as the hospital’s compliance officer. Peters has extensive experience in corporate compliance working in a similar role for the past four years at a children’s hospital in South Florida as an ethics and compliance specialist. Peters joins West Boca Medical Center to continue to implement the systems, processes and policies of Tenet’s Ethics and Compliance Program. Peters has a certification in health care compliance and health care privacy compliance from the Health Care Compliance Association. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in chemistry and her Masters of Health Services Administration from Florida International University.

HOME SERVICES

Neat n Clean Home Services has earned Accredited Members status from the National Home Watch Association. The Jupiter-based business offers home cleaning and home watch services.

HOSPITALITY

Christine Bostley has been promoted to director of food and beverage at Wycliffe Golf and Country Club. Her responsibilities include overseeing the Dining Rooms, Housekeeping, and Mens’ and Ladies’ Card Rooms. Bostley graduated from Miami Dade North Campus with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management. She is a 15-year veteran of Wycliffe.

LAND DEVELOPMENT

Connor O’ Rourke has joined Simmons & White as an autocadd designer. His work supports commercial and residential land development. O’Rourke received his Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University, with postgraduate continuing education in advanced cadd design and engineering.

LEGAL

Amanda Romfh Jesteadt was installed as president-elect of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers’ Palm Beach County chapter for 2017-18 term. She has held a number of board positions in FAWL’s Palm Beach chapter, including secretary, treasurer, membership chair, program director and newsletter and publicity chair. She is active in The Florida Bar, where she is a member of its diversity and inclusion committee and has served on its committee on professionalism. Jesteadt received her J.D. magna cum laude from the University of Florida’s Fredric G. Levin College of Law and her B.A. with honors from the University of Chicago. She is a commercial litigator for telecommunications at Carlton Fields.

Keith R. Hedrick has joined Murray Guari Trial Attorneys as an associate. Prior to joining Murray Guari, Hedrick worked as an associate attorney with a large, personal injury defense firm representing insurance companies before switching to plaintiff work. Hedrick earned his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law. Prior to law school, he attended Concordia University in Montreal, Canada.

NONPROFITS

Julia Dattolo has been appointed chief operating officer of programs at CareerSource Palm Beach County. Dattolo previously served as director of client services for the organization, where she was responsible for the oversight and coordination of the veterans services and health care recruiting departments. Prior to joining CareerSource, she was a United States Navy Nurse Corps Officer for 22 years, retiring with the rank of Commander. Dattolo was also responsible for the research, training, education and management of staff in various units at Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville and the University of California’s San Diego Medical Center.

Scott Anderson has been appointed board member of Dollars 4 Tic Scholars. Anderson is employed in corporate finance where he focuses on financial analysis, and will help Dollars 4 Tic Scholars with finance and fundraising goals. He is a graduate of Florida International University with a bachelor’s degree in hospitality management and an International MBA. He also has a master’s degree in forensic accounting from Florida Atlantic University. Anderson recently founded a monthly support group for Tourette Syndrome in Boca Raton.

RECOGNITION

Mirasol’s Grand Clubhouse at The County Club placed second in the remodel category of “Golf Inc. Magazine’s” Clubhouse of the YearContest. Mirasol is located in Palm Beach Gardens.

Philip Stone has received the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation Award for marine conservation. He is a Lake Worth resident and law enforcement officer with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission. When off duty, Stone serves as a sea turtle volunteer, conducting nesting surveys, responding to sea turtle strandings and helping recover sick or injured turtles.

BUSINESS OPENING

Lawrence Gordon, vice mayor of the town of Haverhill, has opened Phoenix Mediation. Phoenix is an alternative dispute resolution company focusing on helping people, law firms, municipalities and other businesses resolve their financial disputes through the mediation process. The office is located at 922 Second Street, West Palm Beach, and shares a space with the Smith-Gordon Law Firm.
