国際エネルギー機関（ＩＥＡ）は新型コロナウイルスが世界経済に打撃を与えるとして、今年の世界石油需要が2009年以来で初めて減少するとの見通しを示した。
ＩＥＡは先月、日量80万バレルを若干上回る程度の需要増加見通しを示していたが、今回発表した月報では日量９万バレルの需要減を予測している。ＩＥＡとしては異例だが、需要の落ち込みがさらに深刻となる悲観的シナリオも示した。
ＩＥＡは、「過去数週間で新型コロナウイルスは中国の医療・保健問題から世界的な緊急事態へと発展した」とし、「新型コロナの封じ込め対策は、国内外を問わず世界各地の輸送量を大幅に減少させた」と説明したた。
悲観的なシナリオでは、今年の世界需要は日量73万バレルの減少が見込まれる。このシナリオは「すでに新型コロナの影響を受けている国の回復が想定以上に緩慢で、同時に欧州やアジアでさらに拡大する」ことを想定している。
一方、新型コロナ感染が「中国で迅速に収束」する楽観的シナリオでは、今年の世界燃料消費が日量48万バレル増加すると、ＩＥＡは推計している。
