These sessions meet new requirements around the Time's Up Act for companies with three or more employees to provide two hours of training, or to provide training for anyone in a supervisory role. GRAND OPENING

The new Pawcatuck office of Jewett City Savings Bank opened recently with a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by Kevin Merchant, president and CEO, and Shannon Haeseler, branch manager. During the ceremony, Beth Frenette, immediate past chairman of the Ocean Community Chamber of Commerce, welcomed attendees to the bank’s newest office located at 46 West Broad St. The bank announced it would be making donations totaling $3,750 to the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center, the Jonnycake Center of Westerly, The Pawcatuck and Westerly fire departments, the Wilcox Library, and the Westerly-Pawcatuck Downtown Business Association.

Merchant thanked Ric Rovero, Michael Bourque and the team from Engineered Construction for their efforts in renovating the office, which was originally built in the 1980s but has stood vacant for almost three years. Joining Merchant and the bank’s executive team were members of the Board of Directors including Chairman Louis Demicco, Vice Chairman Gary Peloquin, Brian Andstrom, Diane Manning, David Panteleakos, Gail Rooke-Norman, Philip Tetreault and James Thevenet. GIVING

Local Wireless Zone franchise owners Neil Ryan and Scott Gladstone recently made two donations of $5,000 each through the Wireless Zone foundation to two local charities. Waterford Country School and Center for Hospice Care each received $5,000 as a grant to further their organizations missions within the communities they serve. This year over $80,000 was contributed to organizations residing in the towns that their stores serve.

During the month of December, Ace Hardware, 146 West Town St., Norwich, is offering customers the chance to round up purchases and donate the difference to the local Children's Miracle Network Hospital. Ace Hardware also collected toys for Tommy Toy Fund.

The 36th Annual Westerly Community Credit Union Holiday Basketball Tournament will be held Dec. 26-30 at Westerly High School, featuring teams from Chariho, South Kingstown, Stonington and Westerly High Schools. Westerly Community Credit Union underwrites all expenses of the tournament and donates every dollar of the gate proceeds directly to the participating schools’ sports boosters. Last year each of the four participating schools received over $2,363. To date, this tournament has raised over $232,823.
