Walk-On's owner to speak at BIG banquet

Brandon Landry, founder and co-owner of Walk-On's Bistreaux and Bar, is the keynote speaker for the Feb. 12 Bayou Industrial Group Banquet in Thibodaux.

The banquet will be held at the Wellness Center at Thibodaux Regional.

The event also includes the group's annual BIG Achiever Awards, music by the Houma-Terrebonne Community Stage Band and a silent auction and wine pull benefiting BIG's Scholarship Program.

Beginner farmers can take free course

Beginner farmers can enroll in a free yearlong training program called Grow Louisiana.

Louisiana State University's AgCenter is offering the program in January in New Orleans.

Interested farmers may apply online at https://ift.tt/2zPJs6J by Friday. Eligible farmers include those with fewer than 10 years of experience, including farmers just getting started.

Grow Louisiana offers whole-farm planning, horticulture and business training, along with mentoring.

The program will hold three-hour classes in New Orleans every Tuesday evening for eight weeks. Another eight weeks of classes will be held in the fall. Participants are expected to attend 15 of the 17 night classroom sessions, along with other activities.

The AgCenter says the goal is to build a statewide network of farmers who are successful.

Seminar to help new business owners

"Starting and Financing a Successful Business" is the topic for a free workshop from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 16 at the Fletcher Technical Community College Houma Campus, 310 St. Charles St., Houma.

This seminar will provide entrepreneurs with a comprehensive overview of the steps to be taken to properly start a business, how to determine funding needs for the start-up and the essentials of running a successful business.

The seminar covers critical factors to know before starting a business, how to officially start your business, preparing for business success, financing options available and valuable resources.

Jimmy Nguyen, Louisiana Small Business Development Center senior business consultant, will be speaking at the seminar, which is sponsored by the Terrebonne Economic Development Authority, Nicholls State University College of Business and Fletcher Technical Community College.

Danos reaches safety milestones

October marked two significant safety milestones for Gray-based Danos, the company said in a news release.

Danos’ production crew working for Shell Appalachia celebrated seven years without a recordable incident, as classified by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. At the same time, Danos’ team working with EP Energy celebrated four years with no OSHA recordable incidents.

The Danos team operating for Shell works in the Marcellus Shale areas of Tioga and Lycoming counties in Pennsylvania. The team provides onshore production operation support in addition to managing warehouse operations and materials. Danos began working in the Marcellus Shale play in 2011 and opened its current office in Martins Ferry, Ohio, in 2017.

Danos’ team working with EP Energy in the Eagle Ford Shale has worked over 160,000 man hours over the last four years with no recordable incidents. The team provides production operation support and is responsible for oil and gas production from wells at multiple work sites located south and west of San Antonio, Texas.

Gauthiers’ Oilfield Rental changes name

Gauthiers’ Oilfield Rental changed its name to Modex as of Dec.1.

The name change follows the transaction between the companies in May 2015 where Gauthiers’ Oilfield Rental became part of Modex, the company said in a news release.

Modex, which has locations in Lafayette, Houma and Port Fourchon, offers sale and rental of offshore containers, baskets, cabins, workshops and support equipment for the offshore industry.

Companies sought for skills competition

Assistance from area businesses is being sought to help with the upcoming Skills USA Competition at the Louis Miller Terrebonne Career & Technical High School.

Students will be competing for awards, scholarships and advancement to national competition in a variety of job skills, including leadership, health occupations, safety, parliamentary procedure, job interviewing, automotive technology, electrical/electronics, personal services and more, the Terrebonne Economic Development Authority said in a news release.

Company representatives are needed to help judge competitions and provide equipment, hotel accommodations, transportation and more.
