Hotel casino promotes executives
Two members of the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana have been promoted to executive roles at the Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel in Charenton.
Richard Picard has been named director of public relations and advertising, and Bruce Burgess has been named chief financial officer, the company said in a news release. Both are Louisiana natives and have been involved in casino operations for a number of years.
Picard brings over 10 years of experience in marketing and related fields. He attended University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Louisiana State University and Kaplan University where he received his bachelor’s degree in business administration, concentrating in sales and marketing management. He is completing graduate-level coursework at LSU Shreveport in casino and hospitality management.
Burgess joined Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel in December 2015. He is responsible for accounting, cage, shipping and receiving, and gift shop departments. Most recently, he was the district manager at Total Safety US Inc. and previously held various other financial and operational leadership positions. Burgess received his master’s of business administration and a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He is a certified public accountant.
Cypress Bayou celebrates milestone
The Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana recently celebrated the 25th anniversary of its Cypress Bayou Casino Hotel in Charenton.
Tribal members, casino officials, local government agencies and regulatory bodies convened in the casino’s flagship restaurant, Mr. Lester’s Steakhouse, to celebrate the historic milestone, Cypress Bayou said in a news release.
The St. Mary Parish property began as Chitimacha Bayouland Bingo and transformed into an entertainment complex, the company said. There have been many expansions and renovations, which provided projects for local contractors.
The property has had an estimated economic impact of nearly $1 billion on the region, which includes $670 million in salaries and benefits, $202 million paid to Louisiana vendors and millions of dollars donated to local charities, the company said.
Governor to speak at chamber banquet
Gov. John Bel Edwards is the guest speaker for the Thibodaux and Lafourche chambers of commerce joint banquet on Jan. 17 at the Thibodaux Civic Center.
The chambers will recognize outstanding achievements of individuals and businesses during the 6-9 p.m. event.

Chamber banquet set fpr Jan. 30
The 90th annual Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce Banquet will be held Jan. 30.
The chamber’s newly installed officers, outgoing officers and board members are recognized at the event, along with the announcements of the chamber's Community Champion, Chamber Star award, Chamber Distinguished Diplomat award, The Courier’s Most Useful Citizen award, the Teenager of the Year and HTV’s Eugene Folse Outstanding Veteran award.
The keynote speaker is magician/entertainer David Hira.
The banquet will be from 6-9 p.m. at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center.
