WATERTOWN — It’s being billed as a small business summit.
Small business owners have been invited to participate in a meeting on Wednesday morning to discuss how the city can become a better partner and provide better customer service.
The small business summit will be held from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the newly remodeled second floor of the Lincoln Building, 85 to 89 Public Square.
“The city wants to learn from our small businesses,” said city planner Geoffrey T. Urda, who helped organize the free event.
City Manager Rick Finn has established improving customer service as a priority since he began his new job this summer.
“I know this is going to be a good session,” he said, adding it will last just during the morning hours to accommodate business owners. “It’ll be done by 11 a.m.”
Heather Schroeder, from the Downtown Committee of Syracuse, will be the guest speaker. She will talk about how Armory Square has gone through a similar transition since the 1990s.
Donald W. Rutherford, CEO of the Watertown Local development Corp., also known as the Watertown Trust, will talk about the progress of Public Square over the past 18 months.
An open forum will be held during the last hour of the event. A panel of city staff will be on hand to answer questions about how the city handles a variety of issues.
The Downtown Business Association and the city of Watertown are cosponsoring the summit.
A continental breakfast is included.
The city is asking for participants to RSVP through phopkins@watertown-ny.gov.
