Business ethics group reaches milestone
Fifteen years ago, prompted by ethical debacles that felled major companies like WorldCom and Enron, a handful of local leaders launched a small discussion group focused on business ethics. From that original group of six, the Oklahoma Business Ethics Consortium was born.
OK Ethics, as it is known today, has chapters in Oklahoma City and Tulsa, hosting an average of 400 to 500 total attendees per month. Local flagship companies include Devon Energy, Hobby Lobby, Kimray Inc., ONE Gas, Citizen Potawatomi Nation, BKD, McAfee & Taft, Pelco Products Inc. and many others.
“The phenomenal growth is attributed to principle-minded Oklahomans and great volunteers who are fully committed to promoting strong values of integrity at work,” said Shannon Warren, Founder.
On Sept. 12, Dr. Nathan Mellor, CEO of C3 Brands will speak about “Ethical Leadership in Times of Change and Uncertainty.” Mayor David Holt will lead the program to celebrate OK Ethic's 15th Anniversary and launch the new season on Oct. 10. Sarita Maybin, an international speaker and communication expert, is scheduled to present, “If You Can't Say Something Nice, What Do You Say?” on Nov. 7.
Advance registrations are required for the luncheons that are typically scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Petroleum Club, 100 N Broadway Ave., in downtown Oklahoma City. The September and November programs are recommended for one credit in personal ethics at the basic level for CPAs.
