Ad awards given

at annual event

WATERLOO — The American Advertising Federation-Cedar Valley hosted the American Advertising Awards ceremony Feb. 23 at the Waterloo Center for the Arts. Thirty awards were handed out for advertising submissions created for local, regional and national audiences.

The local awards show marks the first stop in a three-tiered, national competition. Local winners advance to districts to compete against entries from other clubs, and top district picks advance to the national stage for the chance to win a national ADDY. Last year, University of Northern Iowa student Cecelia Hotzler received a national Silver ADDY Award.

The AAF-CV MVP Award went to Sarah Kies, marketing and communications manager for the UNI College of Business Administration. Under her watch, enrollment has steadily increased and her promotions for UNI Business Day have seen record attendance two years in a row.

The Silver Medal Award went to Bob Hellman, founder of Hellman Advertising Agency in Waterloo. Hellman worked in the advertising industry for more than 46 years, creating campaigns for some of the most recognized companies in the world.

Attendees also voted for the People’s Choice Award, which went to VGM Marketing for the VGM Heartland Conference 2017.

For the standard categories, entries earning a Gold ADDY automatically move on to the district competition.

TechWorks hosts

business event

WATERLOO – An Additive manufacturing for business workshop will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday on the TechWorks Campus, led by Jeremy Owen with RP America.

The event will be at Greater Cedar Valley Alliance & Chamber, 360 Westfield Ave., Suite 200, in the Tech 1 building on TechWorks Campus.

This workshop is meant for engineers and designers. New Sharon-based RP America is a mobile service provider specializing in the support and service of 3D printing equipment. Owen will discuss how to design for the process of additive manufacturing.

During the workshop, manufacturers also will tour the additive manufacturing resources of the University of Iowa’s Metal Casting Center on the TechWorks Campus. There will be an opportunity to learn from other Cedar Valley manufacturers during a facilitated discussion.

This tour is part of a Cedar Valley Manufacturers Network series for CVMN members that also includes workshops and facilitated peer learning. The series teachers how manufacturers can adapt new technologies to their business’ needs to grow in a manufacturing environment constrained by a lack of qualified workers.
