Deadline nears for LION Tank competition

MONT ALTO, Pa. — The Mont Alto LaunchBox, a business incubator funded by Penn State’s Invent Penn State initiative, will host its inaugural micro-grant pitch competition, LION Tank, on March 16 at Penn State Mont Alto.

The top two competitors will be awarded mini-grants of $1,000 to $1,500, get one year’s access to the Mont Alto LaunchBox facility and receive additional services to help launch their products into the market.

The Mont Alto LaunchBox at 40 N. Second St. in Chambersburg, provides resources and support to entrepreneurs in a free co-working space to help early-stage and more advanced startups build a sustainable and scalable business and a viable plan for growth. It is open to the Penn State community and the general public on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from noon to 4 p.m.

Chambersburg Chamber seeks award nominations

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — More than a dozen businesses and leaders will be honored for their contributions to the region at the Greater Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce’s awards breakfast. Members of the community are invited to submit nominations by Monday, Feb. 26.

The awards to be presented will recognize both individuals and businesses that have made an impact on the greater Chambersburg area. They include the Property Improvement Award(s), Environmental Sustainability, Innovator of the Year, Nonprofit of the Year, ATHENA Leadership Award, Spirit of the Community and Young Professional of the Year. Each nominee must meet certain criteria and be affiliated with a Chamber member.

The Property Improvement Awards are designed to recognize excellence in design and construction of Chamber members’ projects completed in 2017. Categories include rehabilitation up to $150,000, rehabilitation between $150,000 and $500,000; rehabilitation over $500,000 and historic preservation. Self-nominations are permitted.

Other awards recognizing local organizations/businesses include the Environmental Sustainability Award, Innovator of the Year and Nonprofit of the Year.

Individuals may be nominated for the ATHENA Leadership Award, Spirit of the Community Award or Young Professional of the Year. Each award spotlights different aspects of community service. Special thanks to F&M Trust and Jennings Chevrolet, Buick, GMC for co-sponsoring the ATHENA Award.

The annual awards breakfast will be from 7 to 9 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at the Chambersburg Country Club. In addition to the presentation of awards, the breakfast will feature guest speaker John R. Rodgers Jr., owner of JR Rodgers & Associates, of the Dale Carnegie Training franchise in Pittsburgh.
