SCORE business workshops offered

A SCORE workshop title “Is a Franchise Business Right for You?” is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 17 at the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce office in the St. Augustine Record building.

The speaker is Heidi Simos, who was a successful business women, working in both the retail and education industries. She was the owner of eight learning centers across Florida.

• Also, SCORE workshop “Where Can I Find Financing for my Small Business?” will be offered from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Main Branch of the St. Johns County Library at 1960 North Ponce de Leon Blvd. The workshop will review various types of business financing and the requirements for obtaining them.

The speaker will be Marshall Persky, a retired U.S. Army Reserve veteran who spent about 40 years at Ryerson Steel.

Software company named top affordable choice

Applicant tracking, hiring and recruiting software company BrightMove of St. Augustine Beach has been ranked the No. 1 Most Affordable Applicant Tracking Software product by Capterra, Inc., one of three properties within Gartner Digital Markets.

The Collector voted one of 10 best new hotels

Downtown St. Augustine’s The Collector Luxury Inn &Gardens made the list of the Best New Hotels in USA TODAY’s 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest.

The results were announced Friday.

According to the USA Today website, a panel of experts joined 10Best editors to pick the initial nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote. Experts Marla Cimini (USA TODAY), Eric Grossman, Gerrish Lopez and Christopher Parr (Pursuitist) were chosen “based on their knowledge and experience of American travel.”

The Collector was voted No. 7 overall. In describing the hotel, the website says it “blends luxury amenities with a sense of history through a collection of museum-worthy antiques, centuries-old brick courtyard and 30 individually appointed rooms featuring coquina walls, refurbished hardwood floors and fireplaces.”

The small hotel was extensively renovated.

The No. 1 selection was the Wm. Mulherin’s Sons boutique hotel in Philadelphia.
