S&S Transit

FedEx Ground has named S&S Transit a district winner of its entrepreneur of the year award, given to exceptional partners in the FedEx delivery network.

To win the award, the Hagerstown trucking firm demonstrated exemplary customer service and a sterling safety record.

S&S showed a commitment to safety through investments in technology, extensive safety programs for new drivers and experienced employees as well as regular equipment checks for safety and maintenance, according to a FedEx news release.

S&S also presented a record of support for the local community through charitable work and other efforts.

S&S Transit is one of 15 winners within FedEx Ground’s southern region.

Shippensburg University

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Shippensburg University is once again bringing the “3 Day Startup” program to the Shippensburg area from Nov. 17 to 19. Aspiring entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a three-day training.

The free program will take place at the Conference Center at Shippensburg University, 500 Newburg Road and is open to the public. The event is fully catered and door prizes will be awarded upon completion of the program.

Participants will meet inspiring people while learning about the lean start-up canvas, customer discovery, rapid prototyping and pitching fundamentals.

Hagerstown Community College

The Continuing Education and Workforce Development division at Hagerstown Community College will mail its winter course schedule in November. A handful of local residents will receive a golden ticket inside their schedule.

The golden ticket is good for $100 toward a continuing education course this winter at HCC.

Courses to be offered this fall include personal enrichment classes, certification and licensure classes, basic life support, mixology and bartending, driver’s education, motorcycle safety, ballroom dancing, project management and others. Buffalo Wild Wings

Local Buffalo Wild Wings locations have partnered with the March of Dimes to help spread awareness about the dangers of premature births. Participating Buffalo Wild Wings are hosting a spirit night Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 5 to 9 p.m. in honor of Prematurity Awareness Month. All Buffalo Wild Wings in Maryland, including the restaurants in Hagerstown and Frederick, will be participating. A percentage of all food sales will go toward preventing prematurity, birth defects and infant mortality.

Plamondon Hospitality Partners

FREDERICK, Md. — Plamondon Hospitality Partners will donate to Save the Children, and the company is looking to community members and visitors for help.

Throughout November, one dollar of every room night sold at each of Plamondon’s hotels, up to $5,000, will go to Save the Children. The money will support Save the Children’s hurricane relief efforts following the recent natural disasters in the United States.

Plamondon has eight hotels in Frederick and Hagerstown; Grovetown, Ga.; and Altoona, Pa. All properties will participate. The hotel management and business development company is based in Frederick. Its portfolio includes several Marriott and Hilton properties across the three states.
